- In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Nautilus collection in 2006, the reference 5980 made its debut alongside the time-only legend, the reference 5711. At that time, it boasted an innovative feature as the Nautilus line had never before incorporated a chronograph function.
- Despite this innovative addition, the dial of the 5980 retained the iconic Nautilus elements, including its ribbed design and a legible profile, while ingeniously combining the chronograph registers into a single "bull's eye" counter. The stainless steel versions of the watch were discontinued in 2014, further heightening the desirability of the reference and establishing it as one of the most coveted Patek Philippe Nautiluses.
- The present example, featuring a blue-black dial dating back to 2008, holds particular significance due to its inclusion of the Tiffany & Co. stamp on its certificate, despite the absence of the signature on the watch dial.
